Niantic surprises everyone with a new trick available in Pokemon Go amid controversy. The new feature allows players to double their Gym distance, making it easier to win battles and knock other teams off.
The best part is that players don’t need to enable the Exploration Bonus at all.
We’ve compiled a list of everything you need to know, including how to double your Gym distance and more details about Niantic’s recent controversy.
Double Gym Distance in Pokemon Go
As exciting as it can be, the new trick doesn’t work for Android players after some fans reported the method to be unsuccessful.
For iOS and iPhone users, however, it works like a charm. Here’s how you can double your Gym distance:
- Close the app completely if it’s open;
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, and turn it off;
- Open Pokemon Go, and you should receive a pop-up notification asking you to turn your Location Services back on; do that, and you’ll get a Gym distance boost up.
As you can notice, the process is quite simple, and it doesn’t require any extra effort. However, as great as it can be, this method doesn’t work at all for spinning PokeStops, only Gyms. And as mentioned earlier, some Android users are reporting the trick to be unsuccessful.
Niantic should fix that issue soon! So stay tuned for the next update.
EXTRA TIP: if another team invaded your region and you want to get it back, you can do that a bit closer than before!
Niantic’s Recent Controversy
Niantic stirred quite the controversy at the beginning of the month (August) after it reversed the Exploration Bonus that let players reach Gyms and PokeStops from further away amid the global health crisis.
But, many didn’t accept that, arguing that we’re still not over that crisis. There was even a Pokemon NO Day on August 5.
The feature, though, was enabled again in New Zealand because of a full lockdown. So, the rest of us can play now normally.
