We all have to deal with the idea that the Universe isn’t a safe place, regardless of how much we like to believe otherwise. Of course, our planet is so full of life and opportunities, it provides food and water to all of us. Humans had built a society where you have the right to medical assistance, food, shelter, protection, and more.
It’s indeed true that living on Earth is a true blessing most of the time and for most people. But the Universe seems to always be there trying to remind us that at any given moment, we can be in real trouble, regardless of where we are. If a giant asteroid hits our planet as it did when the dinosaurs went extinct, it doesn’t matter anymore where you are hiding.
Hopefully, such an event will never happen again. What’s for sure is that asteroids still visit us from time to time. Luckily, most of them are harmless and don’t reach the surface in one piece. But astronomers need to keep an eye on the sky with their powerful telescopes just in case.
NASA reveals that 5 asteroids will approach Earth soon
According to Tech.HindustanTimes.com, NASA announces that five asteroids will approach Earth this January:
- Asteroid 2021 YK: This space rock is about the size of a bus, as it measures 12 meters wide. It already passed by Earth yesterday, December 2, by 118,000 miles.
- 2014 YE15: this one is actually a comet, it measures 7 meters wide, and it will pass by our planet within 7.4 million kilometers.
- 2020 AP1: this “wiseguy” is the size of a car, and it doesn’t have our planet in its trajectory, as well. It will miss us on January 7 by 1.08 million miles.
- Asteroid 2013 YD48: this is one of the biggest asteroids, and it will miss our planet on January 11 by roughly 3.48 million miles. It measures about 100 meters wide.
- 7482 (1994 PC1): this space rock is more than two times larger than the Empire State Building, and it will safely go past us on January 18.
Once again, we must emphasize that all of the five asteroids will successfully pass by our Earth. It seems that somebody up there still loves us!
