There have been leaks and speculations regarding the future iPhone 15 series for a while now, despite the fact that it has only been a few months since the debut of the iPhone 14 series. Recent rumors suggest that Apple will offer the non-Pro versions of the iPhone 15 a “Pro” camera upgrade, with the smartphones possibly debuting with the same 48MP main camera as the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple’s renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has just reported that the company has made preliminary orders for the iPhone 15 display.
During the second part of the year, BOE, a Chinese display manufacturer, would provide screens for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as noted by Kuo. Despite BOE’s relatively little role in the display distribution chain for the Pro models this year, the company is said to be gearing up for massive shipments of high-end LTPO panels for 2019’s models. With this, it may overtake Samsung Display as the leading provider of iPhone screens.
When comparing BOE and Samsung, BOE has won the majority of orders for the new iPhone 15 and 15 Plus displays for 2H23. If everything goes well with development and manufacturing over the next several months, BOE will have a 70% market share as the primary display supplier for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
In 2024, BOE will join Samsung and LG Display as major providers of LTPO panels for high-end iPhones. It is expected that BOE will become the top supplier of displays for the next iPhone in 2H24, if the company secures orders for 20-30% of the 2H24 high-end iPhone LTPO screens and maintains its market share of roughly 70% for 2H24 low-end iPhone displays.
BOE was formerly considered for the role of supplying high-end OLED panels for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series. In light of alleged product validation test failures at BOE, Apple is said to have hired Samsung to produce the panels for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, both of which sport the revised pill-shaped notch for the dynamic island.
