Neil Druckmann recently provided an update on the likelihood of The Last of Us Part 3 being made.
Fans have been pondering whether Naughty Dog would attempt to create a new PS5 game to continue the story of The Last of Us, especially ever since the release of the HBO adaptation.
Druckmann hasn’t spoken much about this possibility up until now.
The creator revealed what Naughty Dog would need in order to consider creating a new game.
The Last of Us’ future and how it is being tackled now that the story is a huge success in both TV and gaming were topics Druckmann addressed in a recent interview for IGN.
Druckmann was cautious to answer since doing so would reveal whether The Last of Us Part 3 is in development or not.
Instead, he just talked about the franchise’s future and disclosed how the studio is discussing the pros and cons and overall implications of making a third installment. Is it even necessary?
Druckmann shared: “That’s like a coded ‘Is there a Last of Us Part 3?’ No comment. We have the multiplayer coming out and we are going to reveal more about it later this year. Beyond that, it is the same prospect we have always had. We do not do something that we are not extremely passionate about. So unless we had a very good, compelling story to keep the story going, then it ends with Part 2.”
Naughty Dog is developing a multiplayer game set in the same universe as The Last of Us, as Druckmann indicated, however nothing is known about the project.
In addition, Druckmann has recently made it known that Naughty Dog is now working on another top-secret project.
Of course, it’s very much possible that said project is The Last of Us Part 3 but that remains to be seen.
According to some rumors, however, this might just be the case and Druckmann is just playing coy not to spoil the surprise too soon.
