The Mac Studio desktop system has received an upgrade from Apple, introducing the M2 Max and M2 Ultra processors. The compact desktop is physically identical to the M1-powered version released last year, but it features far more potent CPUs on the inside. The new Mac Studio will be available for preorder on June 13 for $1,999.

With Apple’s UltraFusion tech, it’s effectively two M2 Max dies working together to provide a 24-core CPU and up to 76-core GPU that’s 30% quicker than the M1 Ultra. According to the tech giant, this form of GPU can train machine learning tasks that several separate GPUs cannot handle owing to memory limitations.

The M2 Ultra has double the unified memory capacity of the M1 Ultra, at 192GB. There is a total of 800GB/s of memory bandwidth, a 32-core neural engine, and 134 billion transistors at your disposal. When ordered with an M2 Max configuration, the Mac Studio will include a 12-core processor, up to a 38-core graphics processing unit, and up to 96GB of unified memory with 400GB/s of memory bandwidth. Quite impressive, isn’t it?!
Up to six Pro Display XDRs may be used with the M2 Ultra edition of the Mac Studio, and it also features Wi-Fi 6E for increased download speeds and Bluetooth 5.3 for compatibility with the newest peripherals. Four Thunderbolt 4 connections, a 10Gb ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a pair of USB-A ports can be found at the device’s rear. Two USB-C ports and a microSD card slot are located on the front of the device.
