In spite of recent player threats to boycott the game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is doing quite well.
Despite being among the most popular video games ever, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 have recently been the subject of considerable criticism.

Call of Duty recently included skins for NICKMERCS and TimTheTatman, two well-known streamers, into the game. For all sides, this was a major victory, but it rapidly turned sour.
Following a statement that some considered to be anti-LGBT, NICKMERCS’ skin was taken out of the game.
Despite stating that he had no animosity against anyone and has no intention of hurting or upsetting anyone, NICKMERCS chose not to retract his statement. Naturally, there was a lot of pushback as a result.
Players vowed to stop playing the game, while streamer TimTheTatman pleaded for Call of Duty to take his skin off so he could support his friend by boycotting the game.
Call of Duty complied with this request, therefore neither skin is available for purchase anymore. If you had acquired them, though, you may still equip them.
As a result, players like Dr. Disrespect removed the game and promised to never install it again unless Activision issued an apology or the NICKMERCS package was brought back.
Some people believed that the issue would significantly affect Call of Duty sales and player numbers, however it doesn’t appear that this happened.
The game is now the second top selling on Steam (according to CharlieIntel) after the release of the season 4 update, but Counter Strike: Global Offensive, which is essentially free, is the only game that can compete.
The BlackCell DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is essentially a super premium battle pass, is now the third highest selling on Steam.
Although Warzone 2 is a distinct free game that players may download, it’s important to note that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are effectively listed under the same game.
This may explain why the game is ranked so highly, but the fact that the pricey BlackCell DLC is third does demonstrate that players are spending a lot of money on the game.
The game is presently ranked in the top 5 most played games on both the Xbox and PlayStation. Given that, it is reasonable to conclude that no boycott of Call of Duty is having a discernible impact.
