We have been impatiently waiting for Samsung’s upcoming generation of foldable smartphones for the past few months, and it appears that an announcement is right around the corner.
Some FCC filings have made their way online, showing that the Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 are closing in on a launch and that one of them will include stylus support.
The documents were posted via XDA-Developers, and they revealed that the Z Fold 3 will feature S Pen capabilities.
The device sports the model number SM-F926U, and the FCC filings confirmed that the digitizer needed for the S Pen to work appropriately is built into the device.
The Z Fold Z2 had the model number SM-F916, so it’s easy to guess that the new model is its successor.
However, we are intrigued by how Samsung aims to protect the Fold’s display from a stylus, as the company’s previous folding devices were considerably more prone to scratching than regular Gorilla Glass devices.
With some luck, Samsung worked on some tricks to prevent the expensive device from damage.
The Z Flip 3 also passed through certification, with SM-F711U as its model number.
However, it lacks some of the premium features of its big brother, like S Pen support and UWB, but it is still nice to know that a new clamshell device is making its way into the market.
Both smartphones have been rumoured to launch in August for a few months now, taking the former spot of the Galaxy Note, which is a well-deserved vacation.
As the Z Fold3 incorporates S Pen support, Note fans will have something to look forward to as the summer gets near.
