Low iron levels in your body can affect your overall health a lot. Iron is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies affecting many people worldwide. But how can you figure it out?
Unfortunately, clinically diagnosed nutritional deficiencies are not that common, and the symptoms of low iron can increase in severity if you continue to ignore it.
We’ve compiled a list of the first signs of iron deficiency, backed by specialists.

Headaches and Dizziness
According to scientists, headaches because of iron deficiency are more likely to occur in women alongside dizziness.
But why this happens?
Rob Hobson, a registered nutritionist, explains:
“Low levels of haemoglobin in red blood cells may mean less oxygen reaches the brain causing blood vessels to swell increasing pressure and causing headaches.”
Pale Complexion
Pale skin or pale color on the inside of the eyelids could be a sign of iron deficiency. And that’s because of hemoglobin that makes blood red.
Other areas that may seem paler than usual could be your fingernails or gums.
Dry Skin and Hair
As you’ve probably noticed by now, hemoglobin is everything! The lack of it may significantly decrease the amount of oxygen necessary for your cells responsible for hair growth.
Also, when oxygen is lacking, your hair and skin can become dry and weak. Iron deficiency can trigger, too, hair loss.
Sudden Tiredness
Probably the most common sign of iron deficiency is sudden and long-lasting tiredness. And the low levels of hemoglobin are to blame because oxygen can’t reach your whole body.
Your muscles and tissues can also become deprived of energy, and your heart will need to do all the work, pumping harder to send blood around the body.
