When you say Super Mario, the first thing that pops into the mind is gaming. Whether we’re talking about games for consoles, PC, or mobile phones, the little Italian plumber made his appearance on pretty much any platform.
But who says that Mario has to be available exclusively for video games? A movie featuring the legendary character is in the works, and it has already made the fans go wild. We’ve seen Super Mario in movies before, but this time it should be a special one.
The Super Mario movie will arrive in Spring 2023
The upcoming Mario movie won’t be released in the current year, as was previously thought. Instead, it will arrive sometime in Spring 2023, according to Nintendo itself. We’re talking about an animated movie, not with ‘full stack actors,’ but it’s still good news for any Mario fan out there.
This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.

Shigeru Miyamoto is none other than the Mario creator and game designer. He wrote without room for misinterpretation:

It was just about time to hear about another Super Mario movie, considering that the character still sells great when it comes to video games. The first Mario game appeared way back in the ’80s. Since then, the Italian plumber who’s in a deep relationship with mushrooms has appeared in more than 200 games.
The Mario journey started with a relatively simple concept. A little guy has to roam throughout a dangerous environment looking to save the princess from an evil dragon named Bowser, who wants to do some naughty stuff to the poor girl. Mario had to jump over pits, collect items to gain power, and take down enemies by jumping on their heads.
