What would it be without another Apple report a day? The recent one is quite shocking, claiming that Apple’s mixed reality headset actually has a higher price tag than $1,500 per unit manufacturing cost. Well, that’s definitely a lot of money! Obviously, we can’t act all shocked, considering all Apple products surpassed a decent price tag a while ago.
What to expect, though, from Apple’s mixed reality headset? The BoM (Bill of Materials) for Apple’s future mixed reality headset is described in quite thorough research by Wellsenn XR. And boy, does it look incredible?! So, if the allegation turns out to be accurate, the tech giant based in Cupertino has paid about $1,400 for the headset’s parts.
According to the research, Apple paid $1,600 for each item, with shipping expenses included. Yes, you’ve read correctly!
What does the mixed reality headset feature?
Apple’s mixed reality headset is said to feature the following:
- M2 processor
- 12GB of RAM
- 512GB of SSD storage
- Wi-Fi 6
- Bluetooth 5.3
Quite impressive, isn’t it?!
Moreover, based on what XRDailyNews came across, only the OLED screens are anticipated to cost between $280 and $320/ unit. So, they’re practically the most costly parts. Next, there’s the 14-lens camera setup, coming in at about $160.
What are your thoughts so far about Apple’s mixed reality headset? What do you think it would change?
Apple reportedly spends more than $1 billion annually on the development of its headset. The company has also decreased its supposed sales for its future product. Analysts predict that in its first year, Apple won’t sell much more than 500,000 pieces of the headgear (not that bad!).
Next month, the much-awaited WWDC 2023 event will finally air, and Apple is reportedly going to finally reveal its first mixed reality headset. Or at least that’s what recent leaks and reports claim! The mixed reality headset is said to cost approximately $3,000, but the thing is, how much will Apple spend on each unit’s production?
