Avatar 2 was finally released on December 16, 2022, being pushed back due to the ongoing global health crisis from December 2021. It’s been a 13-year wait for fans, but it was worth it.
Cameron’s plan was for the sequel to kickstart a run of movies every year until Avatar 5 in 2028. Meanwhile, he divulged if The Way of Water underperforms, he will end it with Avatar 3.

Cameron has been working on others movies saying that in December 2021, he already filmed some of Avatar 4.

I actually hope I get to make it. But it depends on market forces. Three is in the can, so it’s coming out regardless.
Why was this title chosen?
BBC News reported the four Avatar sequels: Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider, and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.
Cameron confirmed these are potential titles of the following three movies.
Why has it taken so long?
The filming was meant to start in April 2016, but the filming has yet to begin. After that the filming was announced in August 2017, but it started in September. In January 2017, Avatar 2 was delayed again because Star Wars: The Last Jedi shifted from May to December, but Avatar 2 was finally released after so much waiting.

Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the planet of Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their planet.
