Google Chrome is indeed one of the most popular web browsers, but notoriety is rarely a synonym for quality. We’re not saying that Chrome is bad, but we all have to admit that it’s not exactly the fastest browser out there. And judging by the times we all go through, speed is an essential aspect for pretty much any app.
The Safari browser built by Apple is one of Chrome’s main competitors, and it’s hard to decide which one is better. But according to Google itself, Chrome has become significantly faster along with a new update.
Is Chrome working faster than Safari now?
According to The Verge, Google claims that its new M99 update for the Chrome browser just made the app work faster than Safari on Mac devices. The tech giant boasts about the updated Chrome version being off the charts within Apple’s Speedometer web benchmark, as it allegedly reaches a 7 percent higher speed compared to Safari.
The tests had been running by Google on a MacBook Pro of 14 inches, which sports 64GB of RAM. Here’s what a statement from the Chromium Blog reads:
We go deep on every platform where Chrome runs to provide the fastest possible experience. We’re excited to announce that in M99, Chrome on Mac has achieved the highest score to date of any browser – 300 – in Apple’s Speedometer browser responsiveness benchmark.
Considering the huge rivalry between Google and Apple, it would be a great victory for Chrome if it has indeed become faster than Safari. Surely more tests are needed for the information to be convincing enough, and we’re eagerly waiting for news on the subject.
