Season of the Haunted, Destiny 2’s seven-week story arc, came to an end today with the main protagonists recovering from trauma and contemplating a future that’s both brighter and darker. With Season of the Haunted already offering no big narrative advancements for its duration, it will be intriguing to see where Bungie is heading Destiny 2 next with Season 18, and ultimately its forthcoming major expansion, Lightfall. However, Bungie’s looter shooter isn’t only about the plot, which has improved greatly over time, and many gamers are anxious to learn more about the sandbox.
Upcoming surprise?
Even once the Light and Dark narrative finishes with The Final Shape expansion, there will be lots to discover and explore in Destiny 2. And yet, there’s a potential that gamers may find some of these items very soon since the following Thursday is going to be Bungie Day, which is the anniversary for the company’s inception all the way back in 1991. In light of Bungie Day’s significant anniversary and Bungie’s large presentation last year, it is probable that Destiny 2 may get the same attention this year.
Last year, for Bungie’s 30th anniversary, the studio had significant festivities that featured new items coming to Destiny 2 as well, such as the unveiling of The Witch Queen expansion as well as more surprises related to the 30th Anniversary Pack. There were allusions and tributes to Bungie’s prior work in the 30th Anniversary Pack, notably the Halo series, which Bungie founded but ended its relationship with after Halo: Reach. For Bungie and Destiny 2 fans alike, the Witch Queen’s trailer presentation was a high point of seven years of world-building and weaving narratives together.
A little preview for the next big expansion for Destiny 2, Lightfall, may be shown off during this year’s E3 celebrations. A Destiny-related announcement might be made on July 7 if last year’s Bungie Day is anything to go by, and it’s likely to be something major even if it doesn’t include a Lightfall teaser. This year, July 7 falls on a Thursday, thus it’s probable that Bungie may disclose something similar to a TWAB, but with additional festivities.
