Mason Greenwood, the English striker of Manchester United, was arrested on Sunday after allegations of rape, assault, sexual assault, as well as “making threats to kill”. As a result, EA Sports decided to remove the player from FIFA 22, according to Kotaku.
The BBC even reports that the former girlfriend of the footballer posted images and videos on social media and reported incidents of violence. Greenwood cannot be found anymore even as his card from the FIFA 22 Ultimate Team.
Developers of Football Manager 2022 need time to decide
Sports Interactive, the development company behind Football Manager 2022, will need extra time to decide if Mason Greenwood remains in the game or not.
Sports Interactive said for The Athletic:
Sports Interactive has not yet made a decision as to Mason Greenwood’s status in Football Manager 2022 and will not do so until the findings of the current police investigation are made public.
On previous occasions where players have been suspended by their clubs under similar circumstances, we have removed them from the game at the earliest opportunity.
In real life, Manchester United, the player’s club, suspended him. This was a very expected move from the officials of the ‘red devils’. One statement from the Premier League club wrote as Kotaku quotes:
Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.
Nike also suspended its sponsorship deal with the player, and it said as the same source quotes:
We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.
Mason Greenwood has been a pretty important player for Manchester United this season. The striker appeared in 18 Premier League matches, and he scored five goals and provided one assist. It will be interesting to see how the legendary club will replace the player for the next matches.
