Elden Ring allegedly had multiple DLCs in mind. Elden Ring is one of the most popular video games of the past ten years, which is surprising considering its relatively specialized genre.
Even though these games are frequently praised by critics and sell well, it’s unusual to see them take off as Elden Ring did.
It was one of the most beloved video games in 2022, even competing with huge blockbusters like Call of Duty.
Its popularity even spread to other developers, such as Respawn, who have acknowledged how it influenced their work on games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
That being said, it appears that FromSoftware intended to use a season pass and a number of DLCs to try to make Elden Ring a long-term hit.
Lance McDonald, a well-known Soulsbourne expert, claims that Elden Ring originally intended for two DLCs, and they would have even sold a season pass to obtain these DLCs.
Elden ring was supposed to have 2 DLCs but From soft ended up merging them into one big expansion, has been in the works since at least Jan 2022

He went on to say that he had no idea why FromSoftware combined the two DLCs into one large one, but it appears that they did.
However, if all or the majority of the content still finds its way into the hands of the players, it doesn’t seem like a bad deal.
It seems like a win for everybody if it is also sold at a price that makes it substantially less expensive than it would have been had they sold them separately.
What will happen to the Elden Ring series after its sole piece of DLC, the story, is released is currently unknown.
Given the sales colossal Elden Ring has become, perhaps a sequel can be anticipated.
Whether or not that occurs is completely unknown, but it seems like something we should anticipate in the future.
