Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has asked users of the social media network to vote on whether or not they want him to continue serving as chief executive.
“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.” he tweeted to his 122 million followers in a poll he had created for them. More than 13 million people had voted in his poll as of 7:00 GMT on Monday, and 57% of those individuals supported Mr. Musk stepping down from his position. Wedbush Securities senior equities analyst Dan Ives told the BBC that he expected Musk’s tenure as Twitter CEO to expire as a result of the vote.

After tweeting the poll he went on to post a series of tweets:

Those who want power are the ones who least deserve it
Twitter controversies
Since taking over Twitter, the technology mogul, who also oversees Tesla and Space X, has been subjected to a significant amount of criticism. In October, after a protracted court struggle, Mr. Musk successfully acquired ownership of the firm in a transaction for $44 billion (or 36 billion USD).
Since Mr. Musk purchased the social media website in October, there has been a frenzy of contentious upheaval at Twitter. He has let go of around half of the company’s workforce and made an effort to push out Twitter’s paid-for verification function before pausing its implementation. The function was brought back online a week ago.
He has also been criticized for his approach to the filtering of material, with some civil rights organizations accusing him of adopting moves that would increase the amount of hate speech and inaccurate information that is spread. On Friday, the United Nations and the European Union both issued statements condemning Elon Musk for Twitter’s move to ban access to its platform for some journalists who cover the social media company.
