There are some foods that can adversely affect our immune system and make us vulnerable to infections. They are called immunosuppressants. These foods weaken the immune system and leave us vulnerable to infections and diseases.

Foods That Are Worst For Your Immunity

The following foods have been found to reduce immunity:

1. Sodium– It is the most common food additive that has an adverse effect on the body. It makes us susceptible to colds, flu and allergies.

2. Milk And Dairy Products – Milk contains lactose which is difficult for many people to digest. It causes digestive problems when consumed regularly as it can lead to a deficiency of vitamins, particularly vitamin B-12 which is responsible for immunity.

3. Sugar – Sugar is the most well-known example of a food that is damaging to your immune system, but it isn’t the only one. Anything with refined sugar in it, such as cookies and cakes, can cause a spike in blood sugar levels, which in turn can deplete white blood cells and make you more susceptible to illness.

4. Artificial Sweeteners – Aspartame, saccharin, etc are artificial sweeteners that cause cancer and other health problems in the long run. So, if you want a healthy immune system then avoid consuming such substances excessively in your food items and beverages.

5. Salt – Excessive consumption of salt weakens the immune system as well as causes cardiovascular problems later in life.

6. Junk food – Junk food has no nutritional value and therefore provides no benefit to your body’s ability to fight off illness. It also has a high glycemic index, which means that it spikes blood sugar levels and leaves you feeling lethargic and run down. Your body requires nutrients in order to keep up its energy so that it can effectively fight infection, so choose healthy foods over junk food whenever possible.
