It’s possible that the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima film will have a black and white aesthetic. Game adaptations are a much debated subject.
They were consistently terrible for a long period of time, with only a few somewhat decent ones to make up for it.
However, as Hollywood seems to have mastered the secret in recent years, the feeling has changed.
HBO’s The Last of Us is gaining attention for awards, Sonic the Hedgehog is well received, and more and more game adaptations are receiving the green light with big names supporting them.
Ghost of Tsushima, directed by Chad Stahelski of John Wick, is one such project.
The filmmaker has gained notoriety in recent years thanks to his skilled management of the John Wick series, which demonstrates his ability to combine incredible action with poignant narrative.
Ghost of Tsushima, on the other hand, is a very particular style of game with a distinctive appearance and intense action.
However, he also said in an interview with IGN that he is not excluding the possibility of a black and white version.
Director Chad Stahelski has acknowledged that he’s aware of how significant the aesthetics of the original game are and wants to find a method of supporting it in his movie.
Despite the game’s vibrant colors, there is a “Kurosawa mode” that alters the game’s appearance to more closely resemble a black and white Akira Kurosawa movie.
This small detail was adored by the audiences, and Stahelski said it is “definitely a conversation” to be had in terms of the adaptation.
Naturally, this could simply mean that they create a black and white version of the movie for home video release or even that some scenes are shown in black and white in order to pay homage to the beloved mode of the game.
All in all, it’s safe to say that such details regarding the adaptation are still very much up in the air for the time being.
Since there have been no casting announcements and it’s not clear whether the script has even been finalized yet, it appears that the movie is still some time away from actually being released.
What Stahelski has planned for the future is unknown because of his involvement in so many big-budget films at the moment.
