Google is rumored to be working on a third Pixel device to join the recently released Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. New details on the rumored third Pixel phone seem to confirm the rumors, which had previously seemed unfounded.
Kuba Wojciechowski discovered that the latest Google Pixel 7 series source code repository includes references to two unannounced devices, Felix and Lynx. The former is shorthand for Google’s upcoming Pixel Fold, which will be released in 2020. The latter, however, appears to refer to a third Pixel model, such as the fabled Pixel 7 Ultra or the similarly speculated Pixel 7 Mini.
Neither name has been officially confirmed, but they are commonly used to refer to rumors about what may be Google’s flagship Pixel phone or a new, even more compact Pixel model than the Pixel 7. The Pixel 7 Ultra has been the subject of numerous leaks over the past few months, but the Pixel 7 Mini has been largely ignored. The leaked source code suggests that both cameras in “Lynx” will be powered by Sony’s IMX712. At least one of them is expected to be a wide-angle lens, and the other is expected to be a front-facing camera for taking selfies.
It is definitely a lower end part than the S6E3HCx parts used on the Pixel Pro series. It appears that the chip is capped around 1080p @ 120Hz. This could potentially mean that Lynx is getting a lower resolution panel (perhaps it is the rumoured “mini” Pixel?).

And whereas the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 used Broadcom’s BCM4389 WiFi/BT chip, “Lynx” will employ Qualcomm’s WCN6740 instead. However, the device’s screen is where things become really fascinating. As far as we can tell, “Lynx” will employ the “S6E3FC3” family of screens seen on non-Pro Pixel models such as the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 6a. This Pixel 7 Ultra’s display is limited to 1080p resolution, despite early speculations that it would support 2K resolution. As a possible Pixel 7 Ultra would be unlikely to utilize a display of inferior quality than the Pixel 7 Pro’s, this may be the best indicator as to the identity of “Lynx.” “Lynx” probably refers to the little Pixel 7 Mini. Perhaps it will be the Pixel 7a released in 2019.
