If you’re a tech enthusiast who likes being on the ball, certainly you’ve already heard about Google’s new idea to create a foldable phone. However, there’s no use thinking that the Mountain View-based company has been bitting the bullet with such a plan, considering that it has been pretty active in the hardware field over the years.
Google Pixel Fold is the upcoming smartphone in question, and those who are already skeptical about it might realize that the device will be a blessing in disguise for them. The competition is huge, indeed, which can act to the advantage of Google. Yesterday, we made a comparison between Google Pixel Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, and now it’s time to compare Google’s upcoming device with what ASUS Zenfone 9 has to offer.
ASUS released its Zenfone 9 smartphone back in September, proving to everyone that it is possible for a firm focused on creating laptops to also bring powerful phones onto the market. ASUS Zenfone 9 is a powerful and compact phone, having a display that measures only 5.9 inches, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, and more.
As for Google’s Pixel Fold device, it will come out at some point in 2023. But even so, we know some of its possible specs, although you still need to take them with a grain of salt. Let’s proceed with the comparison, where there are no sacred cows, meaning that we’ll be as objective as possible:
Main cameras: Google Pixel Fold wins
The main camera of the Google Pixel Fold is expected to be featuring an IMX787 main sensor that hits 64MP. The IMX386 ultrawide sensor and the S5K3J1 telephoto lens aren’t to be neglected, either – 12MP for the former and 10.8MP for the latter.
ASUS Zenfone 9 has a powerful main camera as well, consisting of a dual-lens setup: a 50MP wide snapper accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide lens. Video recording capabilities of up to 8K quality are also there.
As you can see, based on the information we have so far, Google Pixel Fold wins this round.
Processors: ASUS Zenfone 9 wins
Google is expected to keep relying on the Tensor G2 SoC processor that it has mounted on some phones from the Pixel lineup. It’s also possible for the Mountain View-based giant to use a third-generation Tensor processor, which will make things even more interesting.
On the other hand, ASUS Zenfone 9 is equipped with the most powerful processor that Qualcomm has ever made: the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Display: no winner
Despite its small size of only 5.9 inches, the Super AMOLED display of the ASUS Zenfone 9 is pretty powerful: it has a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 1100 nits. The display of Pixel Fold is capable of the same refresh rate but of a higher brightness: a maximum of 1200 nits.
In this area, there seems to be no clear winner for the moment.
Price: ASUS Zenfone 9 is cheaper
ASUS Zenfone 9 is priced at only about $672, while the Pixel Fold from Google will be available at a price that exceeds $1500. That’s obviously a huge difference, which makes the option of buying the ASUS Zenfone 9 a lot better.
Conclusions
Buying either ASUS Zenfone 9 or Google Pixel Fold is a good deal if we take a look at the two phone’s specs. If you care too much about your money, it’s obvious that buying the ASUS Zenfone 9 becomes the better deal.
If you want to make sure that you have a better processor in your pocket, you should definitely purchase the ASUS Zenfone 9.
Google Pixel Fold has the better main cameras, which means that you should definitely buy this phone if you want better photos.
There’s no use thinking even for a moment that Google will burn its bridges when it comes to its relationship with the fans after the company releases the Pixel Fold device. We can definitely expect a competitive gadget, and there is still a lot more to learn about it. But even so, surely there will be many folks willing to play devil’s advocate, as it happens in the case of pretty much any other top smartphone manufacturer.
