There’s growing evidence that foldable smartphones will become a ‘must’ in the near future. And it’s quite normal, as who wouldn’t want an even larger display that can also shrink when needed? Devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, or the Oppo Find N represent recent proof that phone manufacturers are embracing the ‘folding smartphone’ business more and more.
Google will also jump on the bandwagon soon enough, as it plans to release the Google Pixel Fold device during the first quarter of 2023. Hopefully, we’ll get to see it in action even sooner. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 device represents another powerful and foldable device that deserves a lot of attention.
We have some information about what the upcoming Google Pixel Fold will be capable of, although there are plenty of important specs still missing. As for Huawei Mate Xs 2, the phone was launched back in May, so we know pretty much everything there is to know about it. Therefore, let’s see which one of the two smartphones deserves a place in your pocket, judging by what we know so far about Google’s phone and what we know for sure regarding the foldable beauty of Huawei:
Display: a draw
The display of the Google Pixel Fold is expected to be featuring an impressive refresh rate of 120Hz. That’s a great refresh rate for a smartphone, as it clearly assures the user a smooth experience while running demanding apps and high-end gaming. The display of the Google Pixel Fold reaches 1200 nits in its peak brightness.
The Huawei Mate Xs 2 has a Foldable OLED display that also reaches 120Hz for refresh rate.
At this point, it’s pretty much impossible to say which display is better.
Performance: Google Pixel Fold wins
Huawei Mate Xs 2 runs on a Snapdragon 888 4G processor. And yes, you’ve guessed it right: Huawei Mate Xs 2 has no 5G connectivity! That is a major downside nowadays, although there are still plenty of people out there who don’t need 5G on a smartphone. And no, we’re not talking about those who are into conspiracy theories.
Google Pixel Fold will most likely run on another Tensor G2 processor, as it happened with the latest flagships of the Mountain View-based tech giant. That means that it’s Google Pixel Fold the phone that wins this round.
Cameras: Google Pixel Fold wins
Google Pixel Fold will be equipped with a triple camera setup that will be powered by an IMX787 main sensor that reaches 64MP. The 12MP IMX386 ultrawide sensor and the 10.8MP S5K3J1 telephoto lens are also not to be neglected.
The main camera setup of the Huawei Mate Xs 2 consists of a main 50MP wide snapper, an 8MP telephoto sensor, and a 13MP ultrawide sensor. At this point, it seems that Google Pixel Fold once again takes the cake.
Prices: Google Pixel Fold wins
While Google Pixel Fold is expected to cost somewhere between $1,500 and $1,800, you must pay $2,059 if you want to get your hands on the Huawei Mate Xs 2. There’s obviously a significant difference in price, one clearly in favor of the upcoming Pixel Fold built by Google.
It’s obvious that judging by the small amount of information that’s currently available for the Google Pixel Fold and the confirmed and official specs of the Huawei Mate Xs 2, Google’s phone is better, at least in a few key areas. However, you must take the specs of the Pixel Fold with a grain of salt, as there is plenty of more time until we get to find out for sure what the upcoming foldable phone from Google will be capable of.
