What precisely does the term “Unspeakable” mean? Professor Hecat admits in Hogwarts Legacy that she was once one.
As its name also suggests, discussing this specific profession is absolutely prohibited.
Unfortunately, this implies that the Defense Against The Dark Arts professor herself won’t have anything to say to gamers about what the Unspeakables are.
There is, however, a small amount of additional information that can quell their interest in this bit of Wizarding World lore.
Professor Hecat is not the only member of her faculty who served in the Ministry of Magic prior to becoming a teacher at Hogwarts, despite the fact that her status as an Unspeakable makes her the most intriguing of her peers.
Prior to being forced to change occupations due to an accident, Professor Sharp, who teaches potions, battled forces of dark magic as an Auror.
Matilda Weasley, who is the Deputy Headmistress during the game’s timeline, was a Curse-Breaker.
Sharp and Weasley are more forthcoming about their prior Ministry positions, but Professor Hecat is careful to keep Unspeakables and their activities a secret.
The exact nature of Unspeakables’ work is still mostly unknown throughout the lore since they all adhere to the same code.
However, throughout the years, a few significant facts have leaked, and they have some intriguing ramifications. Albus Dumbledore, for instance, said that the Love Chamber is one of the Department of Mysteries’ most closely kept groups.
The Thought, Time, and Death Chamber are a few more recognized sects.
Although it’s unknown what kind of study takes on behind closed doors, Hogwarts Legacy’s Unspeakables appear to be working to harness the power of some of the most complex ideas in existence.
Since Professor Hecat would be severely penalized for disclosing more about her job as an Unspeakable, it is unfortunate that players of Hogwarts Legacy won’t learn much more about it throughout playthroughs. The Ministry of Magic has placed rigorous regulations in place to prevent information outsourcing, and the consequences may be quite severe.
Extremely potent and damaging enchantments that in some cases permanently damaged the mental health of Unspeakables who attempted to steal treasures from the Department of Mysteries eventually halted them in their tracks.
Others have received sentences that were as severe as a life term in Azkaban.
It makes sense that students would want to know more about the Unspeakables and what they do given their murky reputation and interest in the world’s greatest mysteries.
But more information doesn’t seem likely unless they want Professor Hecat to go to Azbakan as a result. For the time being, Hogwarts Legacy players will have to use their imagination.
