Instagram is apparently testing a new feature for sharing public posts to your feed, not only your DMs and Stories. Imagine how that could change things around.
According to TechCrunch, the new feature has already been tested by Instagram. So, we might see that happen really soon!
Read out below for all the cool details.
Reposting Feature on Instagram: Hit or Miss?
Instagram is developing a new feature that imitates other social networks, quite impressive, right?!
Thanks to TechCrunch, we know that Instagram has approved testing of ‘reposts,’ which allow you to display someone else’s stuff on your timeline, not just on your DMs or Stories. It resembles reshares on Facebook, Tumblr, or even the retweets on Twitter.
We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed — similar to how you can reshare in Stories — so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work, explained Seine Kim, a spokesperson from Meta.
How would the new feature change the Instagram experience?
Well, in a way, we are not entirely new to sharing someone else’s post.
The thing is that we can only share public content to our Instagram Story or through DMs. So, the new reposting feature could totally come as a game changer, especially for content creators!
Practically, the reposting feature will allow us to share a post directly on our feeds without screenshotting or utilizing another app. Check out the new feature in action:

Instagram has also changed its cross-platform sharing choices in addition to reposts within your feed. Did you notice that? Messenger, Snapchat, or WhatsApp sharing is now prioritized over direct-to-DM sharing. And if you think that it looks like TikTok, well, you’re right.
Stay tuned to find out when the new Instagram reposting feature will officially roll out!
