iPhone X, meaning Apple’s flagship phone for 2017, cost a ridiculous amount of money at its launch. It was packed with some features that could hardly impress anyone anymore in the present. But unfortunately or not, technology always evolves, and it shows no mercy to obsolete devices.
iPhone X will join the list of iPhones that won’t get the new iOS 17 update from Apple. The news might be harsh, but hey, let’s remember that we’re still talking about an iPhone model released six years ago!
iOS 17 will be available only for iPhone XS and upwards
According to GSMArena, those who have an iPhone in their pocket and are willing to try out Apple’s new iOS 17 update should better make sure that their device is either iPhone XS or a newer model.

- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
On the other hand, we can certainly expect the new iOS 17 update to arrive on all three versions of the iPhone 14 flagship: the standard, Pro, and Pro Max versions of the series. Of course, iPhone 14 Pro Max remains Apple’s best smartphone released so far, although the iPhone 15 will also come out in just a few months.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, and Dolby Vision, as well as a high brightness of 1000 nits (typ) and 2000 nits (HBM).
Running on iOS 16 out of the box, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is powered by the Apple A16 Bionic flagship chipset, built on a 4 nm process. It features a hexa-core CPU with two high-performance cores (Everest) clocked at 3.46 GHz and four energy-efficient cores (Sawtooth) clocked at 2.02 GHz. The device also includes the Apple GPU with 5-core graphics.
Apple’s new iOS 17 update stands out for a few impressive features, such as Live Voicemail or StandBy mode. The OS update was just announced a few hours ago by the Cupertino-based giant.
