The design, functionality, and potential capabilities of the PSVR 2 from Sony have just lately been shown to the public. New assets and experiences like Horizon: Call of the Mountain made Sony appear like it was ready to go with its next-generation VR Headset when it was marketed. VR components supply chain expert, however, tweeted that this accessory may not be released until much later than originally anticipated.
VR display shipments to rise >50% to >15M in 2022 despite delays to 2023 at Apple and Sony. Big jump forecasted in 2023.https://t.co/4m1FfgkeoM

Recent evidence reveals that Sony has already postponed the internal release of the PSVR 2 according to DSCC CEO Ross Young’s tweet. Despite Apple and Sony’s manufacturing delays, the tweet predicts a 50% rise in 2022 in the shipping of VR screens. DSCC believes that 80 percent of all VR display supplies are going to Meta, which leaves little space for the massive allocation required for a VR Headset launch by the end of the year, according to the report.
Release date
The PSVR 2 was supposed to be released around the holiday season of 2022, despite Sony never announcing a release date. The PSVR 2’s internal delay isn’t all that shocking. A hardware delay fits perfectly in with the numerous other games that have had delays, however, the source of the delay seems to be unknown. Overall, the planned shipment of VR displays is expanding rapidly throughout 2018, so at the very least there are no supply chain difficulties in this regard. Supply chain concerns might be to blame for a delay in the PSVR 2’s release, which has been pushed back for almost a year and a half by delays in the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Alternatively, it’s likely that the PSVR 2 delay had little to do with supply chain concerns and might be a matter of fine-tuning the capabilities of the PSVR 2 headset and providing the developers of games and services on PSVR 2 more time to acclimate and fully exploit its possibilities. Eventually, Sony will either acknowledge or refute these claims of a delay and offer a rationale as to why.
