Under the oversight and safety of the Israeli Space Agency, a team of six – five men and one woman – have begun simulating what it will be like to live for about a month on the red planet. Underneath a rocky border, the station is hidden. They are sleeping inside, eating, and experimenting. They wear mockery suits equipped with cameras, microphones, and breathing devices.
“We have the motto of fail fast, fail cheap, and have a steep learning curve. Because for every mistake we make here on earth, we hope we don’t repeat it on Mars. The habitat, right now, is the most complex, the most modern analog research station on this planet,” said Gromer, standing beside the 120 sq meter (1,300 sq feet) structure shaped like two large, connected yurts,” declared the director of the Austrian Space Forum.
Along with the Israel Space Agency and local D-MARS Group, the Austrian organization is managing the project. Several Mars samples have enthralled lovers of astronomy worldwide with robot rovers such as NASA’s Perseverance and Ingenuity helicopters providing a look at the ground of the planet.
The six group members are on the camera continually, their key signals are watched, their moves within are observed to evaluate favored congregation places. All of this, Gromer added, to better grasp the human component. Outdoors, additional engineers, and professionals working with a drone and rover enhance independent navigation and mapping in a world without GPS.
“We are six people working in a tight space under a lot of pressure to do a lot of tests. There are bound to be challenges. But I trust my crew that we are able to overcome those challenges,” added Alon Tenzer
This new simulation base might one day prepare humans for life on the Red Planet.
