To the general audience, Apple released iOS 16 back in late 2022. Since then, it has been developing the 16.x series of minor releases in order to address outstanding issues and finally roll out some of the promised new features. Meanwhile, developers in Cupertino have been working on iOS 17, the next major version of Apple’s mobile operating system. Although it is unusual for iOS version upgrades to be revealed in advance of their official release, it has happened on occasion. There are some releases that everyone waits all year for, and it looks that this year’s release is one of them.
The HowToiSolve blog suggests that iOS 17 (codenamed Dawn) may be lacking in graphical innovation. It’s no surprise that Apple is shifting resources to work on the mixed-reality headgear since such talk has circulated in the past. However, the source has now revealed new details about the updates coming in iOS 17. One example is making significant changes to the Music app, maybe focusing on making it easier to navigate.
The leaker claims that the Home app, like Music, will be receiving a major update. Other applications, including Find My, Mail, Reminders, Files, Fitness, and Wallet have all received minor updates. Unsurprisingly, a new app to enable the reported AR/VR headset might be included in iOS 17. The leak doesn’t provide many specifics, but we may guess this software is used to adjust the headset’s settings and personalize the user’s experience.
In addition to these system-wide improvements, the code for iOS 17 may have leaked details about the next iPhone 15 series. Assuming the rumors are true, all iPhone 15 versions will have the Dynamic Island and USB Type-C. The increased USB 3.2 transfer rates are supported by just two iPhone 15 models, probably the 15 Pro and the 15 Ultra. So, Apple might include a USB-C connector in the cheaper iPhone 15 models without giving them access to the performance boosts.
Finally, it appears that Apple will be integrating a more sophisticated picture processing app with the iPhone 15 Ultra as an exclusive this year. Since Apple wants to differentiate between the 15 and 15 Pro, the Pro could not get this feature.
