Who would’ve thought The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would be disturbed by such a thing…let me tell you, not us! A district court in California has received a DMCA subpoena request from Nintendo of America, which, if approved, will compel Discord to identify the individual responsible for the February art book leak of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Well, that escalated pretty quickly, didn’t it?!
The real name of the one which Nintendo believes is responsible for the leak, as well as the name of the Discord server where the images reportedly first leaked, are specifically mentioned in the DMCA subpoena that the company’s lawyers applied for on April 7, 2023, according to a report from TorrentFreak. But things get even worse because, you see, there’s a true case of justice, and Nintendo will definitely do anything to shed light. As a result, the DMCA subpoena mandates that a provider (a social media platform or even a sales website) divulge the specifics of the offender as per US copyright law.
But in what seems to be a real mess, Nintendo has actually issued a DMCA notification in February, so it appears that the tech giant has been aware of the leak for quite some time. So, why it didn’t act quicker?! Who knows? After all, when it comes to big companies, sometimes you have to look twice! Discord, too, started right after that to take action by removing the leaked content on its servers.
Currently, in an effort to get “the name(s), telephone number(s), address(es), and e-mail addresses(es) of the troubling user,” Nintendo has now issued a DMCA subpoena, as previously mentioned. The company is well known for being fiercely protective of its intellectual property (as it should be!).
Finally, if everything goes right and it is approved, Discord must comply.
Stay tuned to find out more about Nintendo’s case.
