As unexpected as it could be for some, Google no longer supports the original Chromecast. So, if you have such a gadget, you better start looking for an upgraded version!
According to 9to5Google, he first-gen Google Chromecast is no longer supported and not even updated, which is definitely signaling the end of an era for the device. Furthermore, Google released a statement explaining:
Support for Chromecast (1st gen) has ended, which means these devices no longer receive software or security updates, and Google does not provide technical support for them.
But for some, things are just making sense! Based on recent reports, there were users who could observe a decline in performance. To recall, the most recent upgrade was made back in November 2022. Since the first-gen Chromecast, Google has also introduced some updated models, including the $50 4K variant and the less expensive $30 Chromecast with Google TV (HD).
Back in 2013, we were introduced to the first-gen of Chromecast, a cool key-sized gadget that promised to deliver a smooth Smart TV experience for only $35! Smart indeed was this mighty little device, but so do its successors! Google has kept the hardware upgrades to the original Chromecast keep going over the last years in order to keep its users content. But now it seems that we need to say goodbye!
What are your thoughts about Google’s plans to disrupt the support for the first-gen Chromecast?
All in all, we have to accept the decision. Google’s first-gen Chromecast is still going strong 10 years after its launch, so a full retraction of the gadget has been long overdue from the company’s perspective alone. Users have experienced lots of ups and downs with the original Chromecast, and since 2019, the tech giant succeeded in fixing most bugs and security problems. Isn’t it great?!
You can choose to upgrade to a newer Chromecast and get the best experience!
