A new ‘confrontation’ of Chinese tech giants is approaching fast! Oppo will release its new A58 5G phone in less than a week, and buying it will represent a suitable choice for those willing to get their hands on a budget-friendly phone that also has some high-end features. On the other hand, Xiaomi also has an interesting phone that just came out a few days ago: the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ model.
Xiaomi is somewhat similar to Oppo due to the fact that both companies are focusing on manufacturing smartphones that are impressive, at least in some areas, while also not costing an arm and a leg.
Several days ago, our publication found some of the specs that the upcoming Oppo A58 will be capable of. GSMArena also provides some important info regarding the capabilities of Oppo’s phone. While there are still plenty of important details to be revealed in a matter of days, we can already compare the device with what the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ has to offer:
Display
The display of the Oppo A58 5G is certainly not too powerful, but it may be all you need if you’re not too pretentious when it comes to smartphones. It’s an IPS LCD display that measures 6.56-inch while also reaching an HD+ resolution. Last but not least, the refresh rate will be set at 90Hz.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ has an OLED display of 6.67 inches, while it also reaches a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and features such as Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and one billion colors.
Performance
Both Oppo A58 5G and Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ rely on MediaTek Dimensity chipsets – Dimensity 700 for the former and Dimensity 1080 for the latter.
Both smartphones are equipped with Android 12 out of the box.
Cameras
Oppo A58 5G is carrying a dual camera setup on the rear: a 50MP wide snapper and a 2MP depth sensor. Surely this setup is not too impressive, but still, the one mounted on Xiaomi’s new phone is much more imposing.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ carries a triple camera setup on the rear, and the 200MP wide main sensor easily takes the cake. There’s also an ultrawide sensor of 8MP and a 2MP macro sensor.
RAM & Storage
Things are surprisingly tight in this area. While Xiaomi’s new phone comes only in 256GB of storage, the Oppo A58 also has a 128GB variant. Redmi Note 12 Pro+ comes in two versions of RAM, 8GB and 12GB, while Oppo’s device comes in 6GB and 8GB of RAM.
Price
If you want to buy the new Oppo A58 5G phone, you’ll have to spend somewhere between $200 and $250. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+, on the other hand, can be yours for a price of just $339.
Conclusions
Oppo A58 5G is the phone to buy if your budget doesn’t surpass 250 bucks. But it’s certainly worth the effort to expand that budget to buy yourself the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+. The latter is a better smartphone in pretty much all areas.
However, if you can be satisfied with what the Oppo A58 5G has to offer, who are we to oppose? You can go ahead and buy it, as it can certainly be a good option for those who don’t use their smartphone a lot.
One interesting and bad aspect that both Oppo A58 5G and Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ have in common is that neither of them offers protection against water. Therefore, you must be extremely careful while maneuvering these phones around, as they certainly don’t like going for a swim or enjoying the rain.
