One of the biggest Studio Trigger anime, the classic Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt has been renewed for a second season and the announcement came during a special time – around the studio’s 10 year anniversary!
As you may be aware, during this decade of activity, they have managed to release some of the most unique productions ever, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt being one of them without a doubt.
One of the things that made it so different was also the fact that Studio Trigger was formed by a former employee of Gainax – Hiroyuki Imaishi – who has directed some other projects for Trigger in the last 10 years.
Unfortunately, this also meant that a number of Gainax projects were left unfinished as a result.
In other words, while some of Studio Trigger’s projects were renewed for subsequent seasons, it took Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt no less than 12 years to get a second installment, in spite of its relatively big cult following.
The great news was shared at Anime Expo during Studio Trigger’s tenth year anniversary panel, making many fans very happy and excited to check out how the story of this classic anime unfolds.
Of course, the announcement also came with many questions that were left unanswered for the time being, with fans still not knowing what to expect from season 2.
All those in attendance were able to check out was a short teaser trailer that shows Panty and Stocking holding two of their middle fingers up as to illustrate that a second season is coming.
Despite the fact that it’s been so long since the first season aired, judging by how large the fanbase seems to be, it is safe to assume the second season will be really well received by most.
The reason why Panty and Stocking Garterbelt got so much attention at the time was simply because it was seemingly unlike anything else in the anime genre, especially when compared to the studio’s other projects released around that time or prior.
Not only did the anime feature a crude duo with suitable names at the very center of the story but the art style was far more similar to Western cartoons such as The Powerpuff Girls than to the style we tend to associate anime with as well.
Of course, a lot has changed in the last 12 years in the world, which might mean that season 2 could have the freedom to be even wilder so if you are a big fan of the first installment, don’t miss out!
