Pokemon Go’s Psychic Spectacular event appears very simple to get a grasp of at first, but there is one element that appears to be a bit tricky for some players.
One of the latest highlights of the game is the addition of Inkay, which is a bit odd thanks to its typing and its reputation of being the Revolving Pokemon thanks to its evolution path.
Normally, to evolve Inkay into Malamar, players must level it up to level 30 and then hold their Nintendo 3DS or Switch devices upside down at the end of a fight.
Niantic kept that in mind and reintroduced the feature to some extent in Pokemon Go, too.
After you capture an Inkay in the game, you will have to gather 50 Inkay Candy before evolving it.
As soon as you are ready, you must hold your smartphone upside down, which should trigger the evolution of Inkay into Malamar.
Inkay is special because it’s the only new Pokemon making an apparition during the Psychic Spectacular, but there is a chance to encounter other Psychic-types via Special Research or keep on grinding the season-long Misunderstood Mischief Special Research, which has just gotten a follow-up part.
As you can see, the process of evolving Inkay into Malamar is very similar to that of other Pokemon. However, it’s that gimmick of turning your phone upside down that could have had you frustrated for hours while trying to evolve your Pokemon had you not known about it.
We believe that Niantic had a bunch of reasons to introduce the upside-down step in the evolution process of Inkay.
First of all, there is a touch of nostalgia for those who enjoy or enjoy playing Pokemon games on their Nintendo 3DS (or older) devices.
Also, it’s quite a unique gimmick that freshens up the game a bit. You can now go and tell your friends that you’ve learned the secret to evolve Inkay!
