PS5 DualSense Edge Battery Life Is Shorter than the OG Controller’s, Sony Confirms – Here’s Why!

While Sony’s upcoming DualSense Edge controller will feature quite a few intriguing customization options for the most dedicated of gamers, new reports say there is a significant underside to it as well!

More precisely, it appears that this controller will have a shorter battery life when compared to the regular DualSense controller that comes with every PlayStation 5 purchase.

Of course, the upgrades may be worth the US$199 price to some, including the ability to set trigger travel in 3 modes depending on the game category, memorizing profiles and changing them as you go.

The sensitivity of the joystick and dead zones are customizable as well, and the modular sticks can also be swapped with US$19.99 units when they begin to drift!

And that’s not even all! The DualSense Edge comes with swappable back buttons with different styles and a long, braided cable which is perfect for those concerned about the lag difference when playing wireless vs. wired, providing a flawless connection!

And of course, the USB-C cable charges the controller while you’re playing as well, which is more than welcome since the battery will not last as much in wireless mode.

That being said, the battery downgrade is definitely still a little disappointing, especially due to the fact that this is the most expensive PS5 controller to date, being nearly three times the price of the regular DualSense.

Sony has officially confirmed that the DualSense Edge’s battery endurance is slightly shorter than that of the default controller.

As for the reason they have made this decision, Sony explained that: “The DualSense Edge controller’s operating time is moderately shorter than the original DualSense controller because we have included many more features within the same form factor and design as the original controller. We wanted to strike a nice balance between wireless operating time and delivering robust, high performance features. Additionally, the longer USB braided cable is great for those competitive players who favor playing with a wired connection as to avoid wireless interference as well – this option preserves battery life.”

At this point in time, the exact difference in battery life between the two PS5 controllers is yet to be known.

For reference, the original DualSense controller boasts 12 to 15 hours of endurance and given how much Sony is highlighting the addition of the wired USB-C cable connection, the upcoming controller may not get even close to those numbers but that remains to be seen!
