There are many expensive cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, but the most uncommon ones can take most fans by surprise.
The popularity of the Pokémon Trading Card Game seems to be expanding and as a result, the rarest Pokémon cards are receiving more and more attention.
There are a few cards that have only been printed in a small number of copies so they have become the most desirable by collectors everywhere.
Several cards have attained extremely high values as a result of the recognition and portrayal of the Pokémon shown. But not all of the most costly Pokémon cards have also been the rarest.
Superfans and collectors will probably never see these uncommon cards in person unless they’re really fortunate.
Here are some of the rarest and most expensive cards!
Blastoise
Since the rarest card is not a Pikachu or a Charizard, it may come as a surprise to franchise lovers.
The rarest Pokémon card is actually the Blastoise Commissioned Presentation Galaxy Star Hologram card.
These cards, designed by Wizards of the Coast to win the contract to make Pokémon cards for The Pokémon Company, were only ever produced in two copies.
There is no current information on the location of the other card, which appears to have been lost. The Blastoise card that went for $360,000 at an auction in 2021 may be the last one of its type in the world, if it hasn’t been destroyed.
Kangaskhan
Kangaskhan is definitely not the first monster that comes to mind for fans when they consider the rarest Pokémon cards.
But that being said, one of the most uncommon cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game is the Kangaskhan Holographic Family Event Trophy Card.
Only 3 copies have ever been sold to the general public over the last two decades with one copy being sold in October of 2020 for no less than $150,000!
According to Dicebreaker, just 46 of these cards have been graded by the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), which makes this one of the rarest Pokemon cards in existence.
The Pikachu Illustrator Card
Another one of the rarest and most expensive Pokémon cards ever made is the Pikachu Illustrator Card.
Atsuko Nishida, the creator of the electric mouse, created the Pikachu artwork for the card.
Winners of promotional competitions organized by the Japanese magazine CoroCoro Comic in 1997 and 1998 received the Pikachu Illustrator Card.
39 of the 41 total copies of this card were given to the different contest winners for the promotional campaign. Only 10 of these 41 cards have ever received a PSA certification.
The Pikachu Illustrator Card’s highest-value transaction was a trade and buy that totaled an astounding $5,275,000 for YouTuber Logan Paul, which went on to set a Guinness World Record for the priciest Pokémon card ever.
