Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 have included numerous well-developed characters, as well as a detailed perspective into their relationships. However, one of them continues to puzzle us: John Marston and Abigail Roberts. Regardless of the fact that John Marston is the hero of the original Red Dead Redemption videogame, while Abigail Marston is his chosen partner and part of the family he builds, their connection and origins are largely mysterious.
John Marston and his wife didn’t experience the best quality of life before they joined the Van der Linde group. Abigail was orphaned. However, the manner in which her parents died is unknown. She has to prostitute herself and eventually drew the attention of the Uncle, who later introduced her to the gang of Van der Linde.
The history of John Marston is just as complex. After his mom died during birth and his dad passed away after getting injured in a bar fight, Marston ends up in an orphanage. After he was discovered stealing from landholders when he was 12 years, John was consequently condemned to execution.
The couple became parents when Abigail gave birth to a baby boy named Jack. Sadly, John was unable to handle the responsibilities of parenthood and left the Van der Linde group for around a year. Arthur Morgan remained entrusted to look after Abigail as well as her baby, and he resented John’s desertion of the group for a long time. John’s absence also impacted his relationship with Abigail, although they ultimately transformed into supportive companions.
Even though neither videogame focuses on the origins of John and Abigail’s romance, it continues to be a major plot in the Red Dead Redemption franchise. Their tales’ foundations are far from being lucky or pleasant, yet both have helped each other to develop and strengthen through the years. It’s unclear if a Red Dead Redemption 3 might develop their plot in any manner.
