Even the simple act of walking can be beneficial for someone’s health, as it can help the person burn calories. It seems like such a useful activity when you need to lose some weight fast! What can possibly be more common than to just walk around?
But according to Fox News, you may need to learn about an exercise habit that even grants three times more benefits than walking. And that exercise habit is none other than physical activity. It doesn’t even matter if it’s just moderate or even more elaborated, either.
Over 2,000 adults analyzed
The exercise routines of more than 2,000 adults were analyzed, and women represented the slight majority. Accelerometers were used. Cardiopulmonary exercise tests were used for measuring the level of oxygen inhaled and the carbon dioxide exhaled.
Let's get moving 👣. With help from 2,000 @FraminghamStudy participants, @MattNayor and his @BUMedicine research team have found that bouts of moderate to vigorous exercise drastically improved a person’s fitness, compared to milder forms of exercise. ➡️ https://t.co/Lt6Iu34Hd7 pic.twitter.com/NT6gaIFg82

The scientists released the following statement for their study, as quoted by Fox News:
Our findings provide a detailed assessment of relations of different types of physical activity with multidimensional cardiorespiratory fitness measures and suggest favorable longitudinal changes in physical activity [and moderate vigorous physical activity in particular] are associated with greater objective fitness.
Dr. Matthew Nayor, who is the lead author of the study, declared as also quoted by Fox News:
We expected to find that higher amounts of moderate-vigorous physical activity, like exercise, would lead to better peak exercise performance, but we were surprised to see that higher intensity activity was also more efficient than walking in improving the body’s ability to start and sustain lower levels of exertion.
Therefore, we can easily conclude from this study that working out as much as possible will always be a good idea. The Mayo Clinic also tells us about some advantages of regular physical activity: boosting energy, improving mood, having a better sleep, improving sex life, and more.
The new study was published in the European Heart Journal.
