Who said that only boys can save the day in a video game or action movie? “River City Girls” is one hell of a retro game teeming with nice combos and graphics that will allow you to restore order through punches and kicks in the good ol’ retro gaming style! It seems like the “Powerpuff Girls meet Double Dragon” kind of game in one fun and addicting creation.
The guys from Epic Games Store just made the big announcement via X that they’re offering “River City Girls” for free. However, you should definitely act fast if you wish to take advantage of this offer, as it’s available for a limited time!

River City Girls is not exactly a new game, as it has been around for quite a while. It was launched before pandemic times, in 2019, while it had been developed by WayForward and published by the guys from Arc System Works. If you thought things are wild enough already in this game, get a load of this information: the main roles in “River City Girls” are represented by Misako and Kiyoko as they need to rescue their kidnapped boyfriends. Whoever said that’s only the guys who have to rescue their loved ones, huh?
“River City Girls” is far from being cheap as chips via Steam
Here’s one more reason why you definitely should consider the new offer of the guys from Epic Games Store when it comes to the beat ’em-up game “River City Girls”: the game is far from being cheap via other platforms. For instance, if you want to buy it from Steam, such an investment will cost you 25 euros if you opt for the standard version. On the other hand, if you’re planning to grab the “River City Girls 1, 2, and Zero” bundle, the price will be significantly higher: almost 63 euros.
As you’ve probably guessed already, there’s no use worrying too much about your hardware specifications if you wish to play the game on a PC. “River City Girls” will run smoothly even on Intel(R) Core 2 Duo E7500 processors and 4GB of RAM, even though it’s recommended to have at least 8GB of RAM and a CPU such as AMD Phenom(TM) II X6 1035T @3100 MHz / Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 3770 @3400 MHz or something better.
The description of “River City Girls” via Steam will also tell you more precious info:
There’s trouble once again on the mean streets of River City, but this time the boys are in over their heads! In this all-new entry in the legendary beat-’em-up series, hot-blooded heroes Kunio and Riki have been captured, leaving it to their hard-hitting girlfriends, Kyoko and Misako, to serve up some payback. As you punch and kick your way across town – either solo or with a friend in local co-op – you’ll gain new skills, chow down on power-ups, wield an assortment of weapons, and unleash an arsenal of combos, throws, and special attacks that will leave the bad guys crying for mama – all in outrageous 16-bit style! The awesome action is punctuated by manga story panels, anime cutscenes, and an epic synth-pop soundtrack. It’s an old-school rumble for a new generation!
Otherwise, it’s good to know that you can play “River City Girls” on a multitude of platforms, not just Windows PCs. You can do so via PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Amazon Luna, iOS, Android, and more. Nothing surprising here, however, considering that we’re talking about a game that doesn’t feature any advanced graphics.
Let’s all be honest on this one: Who doesn’t like to see a bunch of cute girls being mean, rowdy, and teaching some manners to naughty boys? That’s why we definitely need to give “River City Girls” a chance if we’re into retro gaming!
