The Galaxy Watch5 and the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, which are Samsung’s most recent pair of smartwatches, have both received new software updates. In addition to other modifications, the upgrade, which is being distributed under the name AVK7, has a watch face based on the FIFA World Cup 2022 and provides a number of other customization possibilities.
Even though Samsung is not an official partner of the FIFA World Cup 2022, the firm has made an effort, with the most recent update to the Galaxy Watch5 series, to infuse the competition with some of the spirit of this year’s competition. The ‘Ball’ watch face, of which an overview may be found below, is said to have been introduced in the November 2022 update, as stated in the changelog maintained by the business. The Ball watch face, just like the interfaces of the other One UI Watches, comes with a few different customization choices. These include options for setting a complexity and the colors of the hands, as well as approximately 40 different color combinations to pick from.
As the screenshot that follows illustrates, Samsung has added some overt references to the flags of countries that have qualified for the competition. When it comes to motion, it seems as though every flag has the same animations, with each ball rolling to the left or right, depending on the direction in which you move your watch. In addition, new stability codes have been included in this month’s update. According to Samsung, these new codes improve both the notifications and the behavior of the device.
The AKV7 upgrade also brings the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro up to speed with the most recent batch of Android security updates, which was released in July 2022. In their stead, fixes for November 2022 have been released, most likely appearing just one week before Google updates these with more recent safety updates. We can only hope that the absence of a security patch for the Galaxy Watch5 series for the past four months is not a portent of worse things to come. It would appear that Samsung’s most recent smartwatches are not going to receive the same level of software assistance as the company’s most recent smartphones. This is evidenced by the fact that the company has added almost no new features to its One UI Watch interface since it introduced the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro in August.
