Foldable smartphones will most likely dominate the market in the near future, and the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 from Samsung will surely be a top model when it comes out. The South Korean tech behemoth will likely release the device during the second half of 2023, which means that we can already start saving money. The phone surely won’t be cheap.
Being the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 surely brings a lot of pressure from the public when it comes to the future Z Flip 5. Samsung has a lot of work to do for its upcoming foldable phone, and the fans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic.
A larger cover display compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 4
Foldable phones usually have two displays, and the Galaxy Z Flip series is no exception. The cover display of the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 has received some critics, but that probably won’t be the case for the phone’s successor. Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, claims that the cover display of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be larger compared to the one of the Z Flip 4 model. If the information is correct, it means that the cover display of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will measure 3.3″ to 3.4″. Ross Young has usually proven to represent a reliable source when it comes to tech predictions, which means that we have to take him seriously. The man also has over 34,000 followers on Twitter.
The cover display mounted on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 model is a Super AMOLED that measures 1.9 inches, and it gets protection from Gorilla Glass Victus+. Therefore, it’s twice as small as what the future Flip 5 could have. This is also the display that shows relevant information to the user, such as notifications, a few basic settings, widget control, access to Samsung Pay, and more, without having to unfold the phone itself. We can certainly expect the display of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to have a similar task.

As for the possible specs of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, although nothing is too certain, other sources reveal that the future phone will have a Snapdragon 895 chipset, a main display of 6.7 inches, 8 to 12GB of RAM, and a dual camera setup consisting of two sensors of 16MP each, just to say the least.
How about Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 existing on the Galaxy Z Flip 5?
Considering that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is expected to be implemented for many smartphones in the near future, as it’s the best chipset created by Qualcomm, it should be reasonable to say that we might even see it mounted on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Galaxy Z Flip series is, in general, one of the annual flagships of Samsung. The latest Galaxy Z Flip 4, for instance, came out this year in August. The predecessor Galaxy Z Flip 3, on the other hand, was released by Samsung in 2021.
Another strong argument that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could exist on the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 is that the Flip 4 model is equipped with the current best chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Samsung could have also done a better job in the battery area and also when it comes to the lack of a card slot for the Flip 4 model. Although the phone comes with up to 512GB of storage space, some variants feature only 128GB of storage. Surely a card slot is needed if you have only 128GB of storage spaceon the phonee in 2022. We can certainly expect the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 to be superior in those aforementioned areas as well.
It’s still important, however, to take Young’s claim with a grain of salt. Nothing is entirely certain about the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 until Samsung confirms it.
