The enormous diversity of life that’s teeming on Earth today (about 8.7 million species, including plants) will be long gone in a few billion years if nothing miraculous and unexpected happens. Let’s just say that the weather will become bad… very bad. Truly unbearable. The Sun will become our biggest enemy if our descendants and other forms of life will still be around at that point.
Or if science will make us immortal, as Former Senior Advisor of Donald Trump, Mr. Jared Kushner believes, there you have another reason to consider not remaining around after 5 billion years when the Sun will expand its volume. The scenario of moving our luggage to another planet is slowly becoming obsolete. Moving to another Solar System, along with the planet itself, seems to become the new trend in town. A scientist believes that the latter scenario is possible, although it still remains highly unlikely in his view.
How to do it
The incredible new claim belongs to Matteo Ceriotti from the University of Glasgow as he was speaking to livescience.com. As the publication quotes, he said:
The Earth could be moved away from its orbit through the action of a massive interstellar object, flying through interstellar space and coming into the solar system and passing close to the Earth,
In this close encounter, known as a ‘flyby,’ the Earth and the object would exchange energy and momentum, and the Earth’s orbit would be disrupted. If the object were fast, massive and close enough, it could project the Earth into an escape orbit directed outside of the solar system.
While Ceriotti believes that there is a theoretical chance for the scenario to become a reality, perhaps most scientists will remain unmoved by his claim. However, nobody knows what amazing things science will be able to do in the future. If it can’t help us move to another planet, bringing a new solar system to us might solve the problem.
