The news that Netflix may soon begin live-streaming a golf event that will feature F1 drivers and professional golfers is by far the most exciting thing we’ve heard in recent times. According to The Wall Street Journal, Netflix is reportedly in discussions to live stream its first-ever sporting event, which will be a celebrity golf tournament comprising professional golfers and drivers from Formula One racing cars.
When it comes to Formula One and golf, it would appear that there is more going on than meets the eye, at least from now on! And do you have any idea what the most exciting part is? Amazing documentaries that follow professional golfers and Formula One drivers will soon be on your screen, featured in an incredible event.
Since more than a year ago, Netflix has been exploring different things while investigating the possibility of live sports streaming. That’s probably the biggest reason why we’re discussing golf at the moment.
Netflix has also previously competed against ESPN for the live-streaming rights to Formula 1, but it was allegedly unsuccessful. That’s quite tough! Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there will soon be golf tournament sessions that will feature some celebrities from both golf and F1.
Additionally, a celebrity golf event would provide Netflix with a low-risk opportunity to work out a framework and handle any potential technical challenges that may arise in the course of future live sporting events.
At the beginning of this year, the co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, made the statement, “we aren’t anti-sports, we’re pro-profit,” which might be interpreted to mean that Netflix does not believe the fees for sports rights make economic sense. But, Netlfix’s rivals, such as Amazon Prime Video, have been streaming live sports for years now from leagues such as the National Football League, the ATP, the Premiere League, Major League Baseball, the ATP, and many more. Way to go, golfers!
