Tekken 7 is one of the most popular fighting games. It was released nearly five years ago by Namco Entertainment. It is the seventh entry to the Tekken franchise.
It is also the last game in the series.
The game begins by placing the player in a learning/practice environment, where they can develop skills and moves or combos that will ulteriorly become extremely helpful in fights.
In practice mode, you can pick the character you want to exercise with and then start learning.
The game features various fighting arenas and 30 characters in total. Part of them are fan-favorite characters from older games, while others are new to the franchise.
All characters come with their custom skillset and moves. Controlling the movement of a character can be done via a keyboard or controller. Each of them comes with a specific advantage, but in the end, it really comes down to personal preference.
The game has an advanced customization menu where you can pick costumes, player gear, and more.
The game is extremely popular, mainly thanks to its advanced 3D graphics and realistic sound effects.
Also, the newly-added slow-motion feature makes the experience more enjoyable.
The goal in Tekken is winning. You can hit unique combos and use powerful abilities to do so.
In its latest version, Tekken 7 was released on arcade machines and some gaming consoles, and it remains one of the most popular competitive fighting games in the industry today.
The game’s characters can be split into a few groups according to their moves and fighting styles.
One of the most notorious downsides to Tekken 7’s principal drawbacks for both casual and pro players is how the gameplay and characters are nearly perfectly balanced.
The game is so well balanced that pro players will let you pick whichever fighter you want because, in the end, that doesn’t grant you any significant advantage. That is one of the reasons why Tekken 7 is so popular -> It is the player’s skill that decides the match’s fate.
However, that doesn’t necessarily render a tier list useless because we can still rank fighters according to their performance in tournaments and information from the numerous matches that have been fought online.
Let’s see our tier list, then!
F-Tier – The worst fighters
- Lucky Chloe – Lucky Chloe is an ordeal for newbies due to her gimmicky move set.
- Kuma / Panda – These creatures are no good in high-level matches. Their hitboxes are the main drawbacks, and their movesets are hard to master.
- Eddy – Eddy’s style is pleasant if you are looking for a fun time or dancing after victory. Still, that is hard to achieve because his offensive and defensive move sets are a bit lacklustre.
Using a low-Tier character doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to lose a fight. In most cases, it depends on who your opponent is. If they are beginners, you can easily win a fight against an S-Tier character, even with a D or F-Tier character.
Hitting combo after the combo is more important than using a godly character and thinking that their stats will win the battle for you.
D-Tier – Slightly below average
- Yoshimitsu – This character is famous for the chaos he introduces in matches. His moves are weird and random, but there is an advantage to that – your rival can’t easily predict what you are about to do.
- Kunimitsu – As a new fighter, little is known about her full potential. There are certainly better options out there.
- Gigas – Gigas’ main advantage is the efficient tactic he has at rushing down opponents. However, that’s as good as he gets, as he has little more to offer than that.
- Armor King – In contrast to the high-performing King, Armor King is geared towards pressure-intense strikes that are started by his gap closers. To succeed, players must put a lot of effort into thinking about spacing, positioning, and time their moves perfectly.
- Katarina – Katarina is a straightforward fighter to being with, but that is also one of the reasons why she isn’t a great performer, as her moves are straightforward and predictable.
- Eliza – Eliza can outshine the competition when a highly skilled player takes control of her. She has some extraordinary powers, but there isn’t too much variety to her attacks.
- Lili – Lili has decent movements and good range to her attacks. She is easy to get used to but has difficulty facing up to the more skilled competition.
To increase your chances of winning, you have to use various techniques or gimmicks that are commonly used in games like Tekken 7.
Juggling is one very popular technique. It involves the player striking their enemy while they are suspended mid-air. When in mid-air, opponents can’t dodge or block your attacks, so you can get the upper hand with ease.
Pushback is another popular tactic that implies fighters are moving back after successfully blocking an opponent’s attack. To put it simply, using pushback will often guard you against an opponent that attempts to push toward you with high-power attacks.
C Tier – Average fighters
- Jack – slow but efficient
- Shaheen – He has the tools to win but not enough to be dominant
- Leo – fast and flashy, but with predictable openers
- Noctis – Simple fighter, strong defence, but there’s nothing too exciting about his style.
- Feng Wei – Nothing is wrong with him, yet nothing is too exciting.
- Josie – She’s quick on her feet and packs a severe punch. Again, she isn’t too great in competitive matches.
- Nina – Speedy attacks but low damage.
- Lei – Very hard to get used to for beginners, as she requires very precise reads on the opponents.
- Anna – More forgiving, more accessible to get used to than the previous two, but her predictive move set makes her an easy target.
- Lars – Lars has some unique combos, which aren’t necessarily outstanding, but they put on quite a show.
- Master Raven – A balanced character with convenient moves.
Walling/wall splat is a technique that involves the player reaching a position in the fight when they corner their rival or push them to the edge of the ring. You get a range of opportunities to strike your enemy with high-power attacks because, when they are in the corner, they are vulnerable.
B Tier – The good fighters
- King – His unique playstyle makes it great for all sorts of players, but there are better alternatives.
- Hwoarang – An excellent fighter, but very difficult to master.
- Kazuya – A fighter that works wonders with those who know what they are doing.
- Ganryu – There is a learning curve with this fighter, but his heavy-hitting attacks are balanced with excellent mobility.
- Claudio – A true mid-ranger with gimmicky abilities.
- Heihachi – Amazing defence under the right hands.
- Miguel – High-power attacks and impressive mix-ups.
- Dragunov – Rushing down is his speciality, with hard hits and oppressive combos.
- Lee/Violet – Lee has some powerful, unpredictable moves.
- Kazumi – She has some very committal moves that work wonders in close quarters. She can easily approach and defeat enemies.
- Asuka – A powerful defensive punisher.
- Negan – Powerful attacks, similar movement to Claudio.
Poking is another term used by pro players. The concept is simple – You strike your opponents with powerful jabs, just like in boxing. That helps you deal quick damage to an opponent. Poking can also be used to deal increased damage during combos.
A-Tier – Very Good Fighters
- Zafina – made for quick-acting players with outstanding mobility.
- Akuma – Amazing burst damage in overwhelming quantity. A risky fighter due to the high skill cap.
- Bob – A fantastic all-arounder that is easy to get used to.
- Jin – He can be a match-winner, but it takes a lot of skill and practice.
- Alisa – What she lacks in damage output, she compensates with poking tools that go along with her playstyle.
- Leroy – One of the dominant characters of the game, with hard, accurate hits.
- Law – Beginner-friendly to a point, a deadly weapon in the right hands.
- Bryan – strong, short attacks that deal lots of damage in close quarters
- Xiaoyu – A technical fighter with various stances and quick strifes.
Punishing is another tactic that may seem a bit cruel at first -> it implies the players take advantage of their opponent’s mistake. It’s that simple – They make a mistake, you get the upper hand for a moment and take advantage of that.
S-Tier – The best of the best
- Fahkumram – A complete package with unique combos and strong attacks.
- Devil Jin – Impressive offensive and defensive options.
- Steve – A tough fighter to master, but with many rewards to compensate, including speedy attacks and decent combos.
- Julia – Julia got her spot in the S-Tier with the unique neutral style and fast mix-ups.
- Marduk – The best rushdown character the game has to offer.
- Paul – Devastating offensive move sets that can become impassable under the right hands.
- Geese – Geese has often ranked as the top-fighter of the game thanks to the moveset and bridge combos that come with him.
