Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI 14 to the Xiaomi 12, after the release of the Android 13-based upgrade for the Xiaomi 12 Lite. Devices that were introduced with MIUI 13 would likely find MIUI 14 to be a welcome upgrade due to the promised design and performance enhancements.
Even though MIUI 14 was formally unveiled by Xiaomi in December, the operating system upgrade has yet to make its worldwide debut. With the Xiaomi 12 Lite, Xiaomi made good on its pledge to provide the OS upgrade for the Xiaomi 12 series in January 2023. The Xiaomi 12 joins the Xiaomi 12 Pro, the MIX Fold 2, the Xiaomi 12S series, and the Redmi K50 series in being able to download MIUI 14 in some form before the end of the month.
MIUI 14 is now only available for the Xiaomi 12 if it is part of the Mi Pilot Program. The Update Box reports that Xiaomi has released MIUI 14 for the Xiaomi 12 with the version number MIUI 14.0.2.0. This is a very new version of the operating system. Until context, the update is 4.45 GB in size and includes the Android security fixes for January 2023. Before updating from MIUI 13 to MIUI 14, Xiaomi suggests users create a complete backup.
If no severe issues are found during the Mi Pilot Program, a build may be released to the public after just a few weeks. Though the file size of the MIUI 14 installer is huge, the final OS should take up less space than MIUI 13. In addition to allowing users to remove more system programs than in MIUI 13, MIUI 14 now has a built-in automated duplicate file finder. It remains to be seen whether all the advancements revealed in the Chinese version of MIUI 14 will make it to the global edition, but the company claims that MIUI 14 can load applications up to 60% quicker than MIUI 13 does while using up to 22% less power.
