A lot of people still believe that Dragon Ball is only about Goku winning and always becoming stronger. That is indeed false. We’ve presented in a previous article some important battles that Goku lost in the history of the franchise, and now it’s time to show that Vegeta also had his glorious moments.
Even in the Manga version of Dragon Ball Super, in the Granolah arc, Vegeta refuses to admit that he’s secretly in love with Goku. The two are still enemies, although Goku doesn’t perceive it that way. While everyone’s favorite Saiyan is indifferent, Vegeta is still craving to prove that he’s stronger.
Vegeta paid a lot for his sins of the past, without a doubt. The writers never seemed to forgive the Saiyan Prince for his crimes while he was working as a space pirate for Frieza. But even so, Vegeta had his glorious moments in Dragon Ball, some important battles that he won, and we’re presenting a few below:
Destroying Android 19 after saving Goku
Back in the Cell Saga of Dragon Ball Z, Goku and the gang had to face the androids created by Dr. Gero that Future Trunks warned them about after traveling in time. Android 19 was one of them, and he confronted Goku. Although our hero was doing very well until one point, the heart virus kicked in, leaving Goku vulnerable and outclassed by the evil android. The beloved Saiyan was beaten to the ground and strangled by Android 19. It seemed like only a matter of time until Goku would die, as the android was absorbing his remaining energy. But all of a sudden, Vegeta stepped in to save his old rival in big style and while launching an unforgettable statement:
Nobody kills Kakarot while I’m around. Destiny has reserved that pleasure for me!
In the next moments, Vegeta turned Super Saiyan for the first time in front of the other Z warriors. The Saiyan Prince started to beat up Android 19 in a very dominating way and obliterated the android without showing any remorse.
Eliminating Toppo from the Tournament of Power
In the Tournament of Power from Dragon Ball Super, the stage was set for a massive battle royale ring between the representatives of each of the twelve universes. The stake was huge: each time a universe runs out of fighters, it will get erased from existence by Zeno, the supreme deity.
Toppo became a God of Destruction in that tournament, making him a lot more powerful than ever. It looked like nothing could have stopped Toppo, but Vegeta’s pride and his care for the loved ones that he was fighting for made him capable of a critically important victory. Toppo was eliminated by Vegeta, but the price was also high enough: the victory left the Saiyan Prince with no energy left to go even the basic Super Saiyan form.
Defeating Goku
Back in the early days of the Dragon Ball Z anime, Vegeta first came to Earth with the only purpose to destroy it and get his hands on the dragon balls to achieve immortality. Goku proved to be a great challenge, and he stopped Vegeta’s diabolical plan. Both fighters got severely wounded, but we can consider that Vegeta was somehow the winner since Goku couldn’t stand up anymore. Sure, that battle is more important for Vegeta himself than for the overview of the storyline. But still, what could be more important for Vegeta than to show that he’s better than Goku?
These are the battles that we’ve been glad to remind you about, and if you would like to mention other memorable battles of Vegeta, feel free to tell us in a comment below!
