Sims 4 players who decide to get the newest DLC, Growing Together, may recognize some popular types of contemporary relationships in novel ways that can help players feel like they are properly represented during gameplay.
The Sims 4 Growing Together DLC is adding a lot of depth to the game by featuring new family dynamics that weren’t previously possible without mods.
The recent emphasis on inclusivity in The Sims, however, makes these changes seem appropriate. A feature that has been present in the series since the first game will now also be changed in Growing Together.
There’s a ton of new content and features in The Sims 4 Growing Together, especially for life stages that haven’t gotten much attention in previous packs.
The Sims 4 Growing Together is similar to The Sims 3’s Generations expansion, which added more detailed activities for Sims at all stages of life.
With that being said, here’s what this new DLC offers to Sims4 players!
Stepchildren Can Now Be Adopted by their Step Parent
This option gives blended families better dynamics, legitimacy and wholesome realism, all the while allowing players to tell more complex stories.
The fact that stepparents could once develop friendships with their stepchildren without ever formally adopting them demonstrates how this DLC grasps and acknowledges modern relationships.
This is a small step that could have a big impact as The Sims 4 strives to have more inclusivity for demographics that may not have been properly represented in the past.
Modern Relationships and Inclusivity
Sleepovers and other features that could be regarded as defining moments in some players’ formative years are added in The Sims 4 Growing Together as well.
Following an inclusivity update in February 2023 that provided a variety of options for those with disabilities as well as players who identify as transgender to feel represented, Growing Together now features truly blended families.
It seems appropriate that content reflecting modern relationships and life would be added to a life simulation game so it’s no wonder this DLC has been regarded as an overall success by most of the players.
Growing Together also expands on the storytelling aspects of the game by using milestones and new aspirations.
The infant update that turns babies into more than just an object has been a dream for longtime players and now it’s finally here as well!
Although recognizing blended families may seem like a rather small step for such a big game, it may lead to additional representation being added in the near future.
