In recent years, Telegram has grown tremendously in popularity. Many are seeing it as a great alternative to WhatsApp, but as it usually goes in technology and in life, in general, you just cannot please everybody.

According to Reuters, the Supreme Court of Brazil has decided to suspend Telegram. As everybody is wondering what the reason might be for such a drastic measure, CEO and founder Pavel Durov sheds some light.

Blame it on checking the wrong email address

The reason behind Brazil’s ban will surely shock you. According to The Verge, here’s what Pavel Durov declared:

It seems that we had an issue with emails going between our telegram.org corporate addresses and the Brazilian Supreme Court. As a result of this miscommunication, the Court ruled to ban Telegram for being unresponsive.

On behalf of our team, I apologize to the Brazilian Supreme Court for our negligence. We definitely could have done a better job.

The decision is indeed surprising, at least for the fact that Telegram has done a pretty good job in remaining up-to-date with new improvements. For instance, the developers behind the video calling app brought an interesting update last year by expanding the number of the maximum number of users that are allowed to enter a video call. In this way, a maximum of 1,000 viewers were accepted per video call.

Luckily enough, there are many more instant messaging apps that users can choose from, which means that there is indeed life even without Telegram or WhatsApp. You can also consider using Skype, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Discord, Snapchat, and a lot more. Each of these apps has its own particularities, which means that the best way to figure out which one is best for you is to test them all.

Telegram is currently available for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux.
