Twitter Will Start Manually Verifying Blue Check Accounts

Twitter resumed its verification program in May of last year after a hiatus of three years, but, shortly after Elon Musk gained leadership of the firm, the initiative was briefly put on hold once more. Musk, on the other hand, has stated that Verified will “tentatively” start on December 2 and that all verified accounts will be manually authenticated prior to the activation of the check. This means that the check won’t be activated until after all verified accounts have been manually authenticated.

This allowed verified accounts to impersonate popular personalities and brands, which is why manually certifying verified accounts is a good option to consider. As a result of Musk’s takeover, Twitter began providing the blue check marks to eligible Twitter Blue members as well, without actually validating identities.

Musk also disclosed that the verification checkmarks that appear on tweets would soon be able to be shown in three different colors: gold, gray, and blue. Individuals are represented by blue, while corporations are represented by gold. Governments are represented by gray. Musk further asserted that members of a group, provided they are validated as being part of the group, have the option of having a secondary, smaller insignia added to their profile.

Concerning the verification of user accounts, it is not known whether Twitter will adhere to the same rules as in the past or whether these standards will be altered. Given that Musk has promised to provide a further explanation on verification, it is possible that we will hear some answers next week.

The previous approach generated some confusion among users because many accounts did not fulfill the criteria but still managed to earn the blue check mark after Twitter relaunched a year ago. With any luck, the new system will make more sense and feel less arbitrary than the previous one did.

The tech billionaire could devise a method to combat impersonation and implement a verification system that is more open and fair to all users if he wanted to, given his advocacy for free expression and his commitment to combating phony accounts and spam bots on Twitter. In addition, Musk has stated his intention to combat phony accounts and spam bots on Twitter.
