There may have been a subtle tease for a new Castlevania game from Konami.
In recent months, rumors have persisted that Konami will attempt to reveal some type of new Castlevania game later this year.
While this would be the first mainstream Castlevania game to be revealed in almost ten years, it appears that Konami may have already hinted at the reveal before.
Recently, Konami registered a trademark for something called “Project Zircon,” which was discovered by Gematsu.
It is believed that this trademark, which was only recently registered in Japan, is for some kind of video game.
Outside of this title, there are currently very few details related to Project Zirco.
It’s also important to note that Project Zircon is simply a codename Konami is using to conceal a more official name.
So what possible connection does Project Zircon have to Castlevania?
Zircon is actually a substance that has previously been referenced in the Castlevania series, as Gematsu was eager to remind us all.
According to the lore, fans of several Castlevania games may find zircon to be a jewel of sorts.
And while this by itself cannot prove this trademark is connected to Castlevania, it is reasonable to assume that this is the case at this point in time.
If Konami does decide to introduce a new Castlevania game later this year, it will probably be during the E3 2023 conference in June.
According to earlier rumors, Konami will have a “very strong” presence at E3 this year and may have a number of different announcements related to some of its most well-known titles planned.
Although there is still no assurance that a new Castlevania game will be unveiled during E3, it feels like the event to watch out for if you are a fan so make sure not to miss it!
