Five separate Lord of the Rings video games will be released before the end of 2024, according to the announcement made by Embracer Group, which took over ownership of The Lord of the Rings IP last year.
Sadly, it doesn’t go into any further depth about these games or even show off any of them.
However, Embraver Group did appear to imply the involvement of both internal studios under its control and outside partners in the development of the games, particularly stating that the IP has “generated a lot of interest among internal and external partners for Lord of the Rings IP, all across numerous media forms.”
During the most recent investor conference call for Embracer Groups, all these details and more, were discussed.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is probably one of these several mystery games since it’s expected to be released this year.
The official Lord of the Rings: Gollum blurb informs fans: “Athletic and agile, cunning and sneaky. Driven by a desire to once again hold what he lost in his hands, Gollum is one of the most fascinating Lord of the Rings universe characters. He’s seen things others cannot imagine, he’s survived things others wouldn’t dare mention. Torn by a split personality, he can be quite vicious and villainous as Gollum, but cautious and social as Sméagol. While being vital to the J.R.R. Tolkien story, many parts of Gollum’s quest haven’t been told in much detail yet.”
“In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum you will get to experience this whole story. From his time as a slave under the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood. Use stealth and agility to survive and overcome what still lies ahead. Climb, grapple and leap your way past dangers or into advantageous spots. While Gollum may not be a fighter, it isn’t unlike him to assassinate a careless enemy – or dispose of them in more villainous ways. The decisions you make and way you play have a clear influence on Gollum’s personality: Always struggling between the 2 sides embodied by Gollum and Sméagol, it’s up to you to decide if the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there’s a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol. One mind, 2 egos – you decide!”
The game, which is being created by Daedallic Entertainment, was first announced back in 2019 and was initially scheduled for launch in 2021 before being postponed to 2022 and then, once more, for 2023.
It does not currently have an exact release date, however. Whenever it does release, however, it will be made available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and, of course, PC.
