Ah, the great messaging app rivalry of our time – WhatsApp vs Telegram. It’s a battle that’s been raging for years, with both sides fiercely determined to claim victory in the hearts and minds (and smartphones) of users around the globe.
On the one hand, you’ve got WhatsApp – the granddaddy of messaging apps, beloved by billions for its simplicity and ease of use. It’s the messaging app equivalent of that comfy old sweatshirt you always reach for when you’re feeling a little chilly. It’s been around for ages, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
On the other hand, you’ve got Telegram – the sleek, sophisticated new kid on the block, with all the latest bells and whistles. It’s the messaging app equivalent of a fancy sports car – fast, flashy, and always on the cutting edge of technology. It’s the choice of the cool kids, the early adopters, and the tech-savvy crowd.
“Telegram Channels” on WhatsApp?
Gizchina reveals that in its latest move, WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature called “WhatsApp Channels” which is highly inspired by Telegram’s most popular feature, Telegram Channels. This feature was initially called “Private Newsletter” but has since been renamed to “Channels”. It will be located under the Status tab, which will also be renamed to “Update”.
With the new feature, users can subscribe to accounts that they would like to receive newsletters from, similar to joining a Telegram Channel. While WhatsApp remains the most popular instant messaging app, it still lags behind in some features compared to its competitors.
WhatsApp Channels is still under development, which means that it will take some time, probably a few weeks, until we’ll hear anything about a precise release date for the rollout.
One of the big differences between WhatsApp and Telegram is the level of security they provide for user messages. While both apps offer end-to-end encryption for messages, Telegram also offers a “secret chat” feature that provides additional security measures such as self-destructing messages and device-specific message encryption.
